 Computer Networks

Network: A group or collection of two or more computers or devices connected to enable communication and data transferring. The networks that a computer is connected to are called nodes.


Some examples of networks are LANs and WANs, these two networks have a vast amount of differences.


WAN (Wide Area Network) vs LAN (Local Area Network)


LAN is:

  • A private or public network that has control over local areas.
  • The speed of LAN is high and it covers a small area.
  • LAn has a higher data transfer rate.
WAN is:
  • A public network that covers a large area.
  • The speed of WAN is lower than LAN.
  • The design and maintanance is complicated.
  • WAN covers a large geographical area.
